Gerald E. "Burk" Burkey, Sr.

Gerald E. “Burk” Burkey, Sr., 59, Patton passed away peacefully March 3, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family due to a horrible disease named cancer.  He was born August 14, 1959 in Spangler, the son of James K., Sr. and Dolores M. (Bone) Burkey.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Jacqueline M. Smith and Marsha L. Burkey.  He is survived by his wife Michele (Seymore) Burkey whom he married November 19, 2009, children David Tyler and Ashley Marie Burkey, still at home, Gerald, Jr., Northern Cambria, Billy Jo, Bellefonte and Danielle, (Chris) Kearnely, Patton, grandchildren Gerald III, Tyler and Lexi, brother James (Becky) Burkey, Jr., Carrolltown, nephews Dustin (Karen) Burkey, James III and great nieces Paige and Bryce.  Jerry was a member of the Patton Slovak Club, Patton VFW, Sons of Italy, Patton Moose and Patton Eagles.  Throughout his years he shot pool in many leagues, was well known on the softball field during Emeigh Sunday leagues, Mountain Top softball, the Houtzdale league along with various other softball tournaments throughout the state.  Jerry not only enjoyed softball, but his greatest times were hunting and fishing with his sidekick Ashley.  Together with his family and friends he enjoyed riding his side by side through mud with the Patton Mud Hounds. He was known for sitting in his backyard by a bonfire with family, friends and neighbors enjoying good food, good stories and cold beer.  He was full of sport knowledge, especially when it came to his Tamp Bay Buccaneers, St. Louis Cardinals and of course Alabama Crimson Tide.  Friends will be received Saturday from 4:00 pm until the 7:00 pm memorial service at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 1004 North Fifth Avenue Patton, by Pastor Jim Sunseri.  Everyone is invited to the Patton Slovak Club following services at the funeral home to share memories of Burk. (
