Evalyn Bernhardt

April 14, 1925 – April 25, 2020

Evalyn Bernhardt, 95, Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday morning at her residence.

She was born in Bedford, daughter of N. Paul and Ruth (Koontz) Bernhardt.

She is survived by two cousins: S. Grace Diehl and Kathleen D. Piper.

Evalyn was a graduate of Orbisonia High School. She graduated from Lycoming College, formerly known as Dickinson Jr. College, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Technology from Temple University.  

She was a registered microbiologist through the American Society for Microbiology and a registered specialist of clinical bacteriology by the Department of Public Health.

She retired as a supervisor of the Clinical Bacteriology Laboratory at Temple University Hospital after 38 years of service.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg where she taught The King’s Daughters Sunday School Class for 21 years and served as president of the United Methodist Women for several terms. Evalyn was also a member of the American Society of Microbiologists and had volunteered at American Rescue Workers for approximately 15 years.

Her hobbies included reading and traveling and she enjoyed classical music, ballet and theater.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services. Arrangements are by Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg.
